About the artist

A lifelong study of the old masters

Every painting starts with a question: what would this master have done with today's light, today's colour, today's eye? Ping Burtt has spent years returning to the masters — studying their compositions, their handling of paint, their instinct for a face or a field — and recreating that spirit in a voice that is entirely her own.

Nothing is off limits. Portraits and figures, animals and wildlife, florals, and sweeping landscapes all pass through the studio, each one worked in oil, her preferred and most trusted medium. It is a craft she is unashamedly passionate about, and it shows in the texture of every canvas.

She has been a proud member of Arts Canterbury for eight years, exhibiting and growing alongside a community of fellow painters who share the same devotion to the discipline.
